Supply Alternative Text Tags for all Images

Alt tags are needed to meet ADA requirements, but what is an appropriate alt tag? Choose an alt tag that correctly describes the image to your audience. Here's two examples of images using different alt text for the same image:

Identify the two fish for a group of first grade students.

Notice how the alt tag reads "Maurice and Michelle the goldfish?"

Identify the two fish for a group of environmental studies students

Notice how the alt tag reads "Carassius auratus?"
