MAT 010: Pre-Algebra


CATALOG DESCRIPTION:

A study of prealgebra and beginning algebra topics such as arithmetic of fractions, decimals and signed numbers; literal expressions; factoring; linear equations; positive exponents; and word problems. Attention will be given to study skills. This course prepares students for MAT 011 and is intended for those students who have no experience in algebra.

Note: A grade of at least C is required in order to enroll in MAT 011.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Realize that many other students also experience anxiety when learning mathematics.
  2. Develop a set of study skills that are useful when studying mathematics.
  3. Perform fundamental operations with signed numbers, fractions, decimals, exponents, and polynomials.
  4. Solve linear equations.
  5. Solve application problems.
